The size gap problem
A t-shirt listed as "in stock" might still be available — but only in XXL. If S, M, L, and XL are all sold out, every shopper who clicks your ad and wants a normal size leaves immediately. You've paid for the click and got nothing in return.
This is the size gap problem: a product that's technically "in stock" but practically can't serve most buyers. It's one of the most common hidden sources of wasted ad spend for fashion and footwear brands.
FeedGraph's Variant Intelligence detects this at the size level and acts on it automatically.
Step 1: Open Variant Intelligence
Go to Variant Intelligence. FeedGraph analyses your entire apparel and footwear catalog at the variant level — looking at which sizes are in stock and which aren't, for every product.
Step 2: Refresh the scores
Click "Refresh scores" to pull current inventory levels from your Shopify store (or other connected source). FeedGraph calculates a "size gap score" for every eligible product — a measure of how dangerous the current size distribution is.
Step 3: Review the critical size gap list
FeedGraph shows a prioritised list of products where the most popular sizes (usually M, L in clothing; 7–10 in footwear) are sold out. Products at the top of this list are the highest-priority candidates for suppression.
Step 4: Suppress the affected products
Select the products you want to suppress — or suppress all products above a gap score threshold. Suppressed products are removed from your live feeds automatically. They stop appearing in Google Shopping, Meta DPA, and any other channels fed by FeedGraph.
Your master catalog data is untouched — suppression is a feed-level action, not a catalog change.
Step 5: Let FeedGraph restore them automatically
When sizes are restocked — either through a Shopify inventory update or a manual catalog change — FeedGraph detects the improvement in the size gap score and automatically unsuppresses the product. It rejoins your live feeds on the next feed refresh.
You don't need to monitor or manually restore anything. Once Variant Intelligence is running, the suppression/restoration cycle happens automatically.
Expected impact
Most fashion brands that run Variant Intelligence for the first time find 10–20% of their active feed is products with significant size gaps. Suppressing these immediately cuts wasted clicks and often improves overall campaign ROAS within the first week.
